Historical perspective about the Department:

Work in this department started in 1982, which was at that time a division subjoined to the department of Internal Pathology. The teaching staff was a collection of foreign and Arab professors until the national staff was prepared. Dr. Nafaa Hamoshi and Dr. Junaia Sarsam of the pioneer professors in the scientific research and teaching and at that department.

          In 1986, the division became an independent department and the late Prof. Dr. Raad Albakua was the first head of the department.

The branch consists of 8 professors teaching the third stage the (pharmacology) material besides teaching the fourth stage (toxicology) at the Mosul and Nineveh medicine colleges, besides teaching higher studies which began in 1992 whereby the first M.A students were admitted in pharmacology, then the PhD studies opened and continued till now.

Vision, Mission, and Goal:

  • Vision: The department of pharmacology exerts efforts to present the up to date medical information for students, namely the kind of information related to drugs in a comprehensive and accurate manner so that this coincides with what has been recently reached at by science in this domain; which would help students practise clinical work safely and effectively.

  • Mission: The department’s mission is to prepare physicians capable of dealing with drugs through their knowledge in all the characteristics, advantages, dangers, and practical use of drugs, whether outpatient clinics or hospital wards the thing that is positively reflected on the patient’s health.

  • Aims: The department aims at ensuring that the students have had all basic information in an accurate and comprehensive way so that they are able to grasp all notions related to the different remedies, their choice and ways of dealing with them ideally in the scientific life. This is why the department aims at vertical and horizontal perfectness with the other departments of the college to help students reach perfect precision for all drug and cure usages. The department wishes to participate in national and international scientific researches related to the specialization of the department in a way that secures active participation to make itself seen distinguished.
