\u00a0 \u00a0In a promising research step towards enhancing food security and adapting to climate challenges, the Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Researches at the University of Mosul has announced the completion of a crucial phase of its scientific research activity for the sesame crop. On October 20th and 21st, 2025, field readings were successfully taken and the sesame crop, a key strategic crop, was harvested as part of the center’s research trials.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 This process was conducted under the direct supervision of the Head of the Genetic Resources Department, Professor Dr. Mohammed Sobhi Al-Taweel, with the active participation of the center’s researchers: Assistant Professor Dr. Maan Mohammed Saleh, Assistant Lecturer Ammar Habib Mahmoud, and Assistant Lecturer Zainab Hamid Abdullah, in addition to the center’s engineers. This research focuses on evaluating new genotypes of the sesame crop, aiming to identify the most tolerant genotypes to the climatic variations facing Iraq.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 These research efforts aim to provide improved sesame varieties to farmers, contributing to enhancing crop quality and increasing their productivity, thereby improving their livelihoods and supporting the national agricultural economy. This activity is part of the center’s broader, ongoing efforts to develop sustainable agricultural solutions, which directly align with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 Specifically, this researches corresponds with the first SDG (No Poverty) by supporting farmers and improving their income, the thirteenth SDG (Climate Action) by developing climate-resilient crops, and the fifteenth SDG (Life on Land) by preserving biodiversity and promoting environmental sustainability in agricultural systems.<\/p>\n
