\u00a0 In an initiative reflecting innovation and environmental responsibility, the Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Research at the University of Mosul launched a campaign to produce seedlings of Moringa oleifera<\/em> on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. This initiative comes include a strategic approach to address climate change challenges and strengthen food and water security.<\/h3>\n

\u00a0 A specialized team of researchers and young agricultural engineers at the center began filling nursery bags to propagate various moringa seedlings. The plant is known for its drought tolerance and its ability to adapt to water scarcity and high temperatures. This step aligns with the directives of the President of the University of Mosul to implement an ambitious plan introducing \u201cclimate-smart\u201d plant varieties that contribute to sustainable nutritional and economic returns.<\/h3>\n

\u00a0 The campaign is based on scientific studies demonstrating moringa\u2019s effectiveness in soil stabilization, erosion control, and the production of high-protein animal feed, in addition to its multiple nutritional and medicinal benefits. These characteristics make it a promising option in desertification control programs and land rehabilitation efforts.<\/h3>\n

\u00a0 Through this initiative, the center aims to ensure healthy root development of seedlings and facilitate their transfer to farms and forested areas, forming a cornerstone for afforestation projects and vegetation restoration in dry environments.<\/h3>\n

\u00a0 This campaign aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals, most notably: Goal 4: Quality Education<\/strong> \u2014 by training youth and students in drought-resistant plant propagation techniques and promoting climate-smart agriculture.\u00a0 Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth<\/strong> \u2014 by creating employment opportunities for young professionals and providing feed and food alternatives that support farmers\u2019 incomes.
