<\/i><\/i><\/span>Programme Description<\/span><\/a><\/h4><\/div>

The Bachelor of Science in Ancient and Islamic Archaeology program is a four-year undergraduate program with a course load of 240 ECTS credits. It aims to prepare graduates with specialized scientific knowledge of the history and antiquities of ancient and Islamic civilizations, while equipping them with the necessary theoretical and practical skills to study, document, analyze, preserve, and manage archaeological sites, buildings, finds, and resources.<\/p>\n

The curriculum is divided into eight semesters, with 30 credit hours per semester, according to the attached syllabus. There are common courses in the first and second years, followed by specialized courses in the Ancient and Islamic Archaeology branches in the third and fourth years.<\/p>\n

The curriculum integrates history, architecture, arts, archaeological sites and cities, ancient languages \u200b\u200band written sources, along with surveying, excavation, documentation, conservation, restoration, geographic information systems, scientific research, training, and a graduation project. The Ancient Archaeology branch includes courses such as Prehistory, Archaeology of Iraq, Geoarchaeology, Sumerian, Babylonian, and Assyrian Texts, and Excavation Methods. The branch of Islamic antiquities includes Arabic calligraphy, Islamic arts, Islamic architecture, coins, pottery and ceramics, manuscripts, Islamic photography and Islamic artifacts.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

The Department of Archaeology aims to:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. \u00a0To provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the history and antiquities of ancient and Islamic civilizations, with a focus on Mesopotamia and related regions.<\/li>\n
  2. \u00a0To develop the ability to identify, classify, and analyze archaeological sites, buildings, and artifacts within their temporal, spatial, and cultural contexts.<\/li>\n
  3. \u00a0To equip students with the fundamentals of surveying, excavation, recording, documentation, drawing, photography, and archaeological analysis.<\/li>\n
  4. \u00a0To utilize archaeological, historical, and written sources, including cuneiform texts, in constructing archaeological interpretations.<\/li>\n
  5. \u00a0To develop scientific research skills, including formulating research problems, collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data.<\/li>\n
  6. \u00a0To enhance the use of modern technologies, particularly GIS, digital documentation, databases, and digital photography.<\/li>\n
  7. \u00a0To prepare students for fieldwork in museums, heritage, cultural, and research institutions.<\/li>\n
  8. \u00a0To promote the protection and preservation of cultural heritage and respect for legislation and the ethics of archaeological work.<\/li>\n
  9. \u00a0To develop scientific communication, teamwork, time management, and professional responsibility.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Upon successful completion of the program requirements, the graduate is awarded a Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Ancient and Islamic Archaeology, in accordance with the approved regulations and instructions.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

    <\/i><\/i><\/span>Qualification Level<\/span><\/a><\/h4><\/div>

    The program is classified within Level 6 of the Iraqi National Qualifications Framework (INQF), in accordance with applicable legislation and instructions, taking into account the requirements of the institution and the ministry upon final accreditation.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

    <\/i><\/i><\/span>Specific Admission Requirements<\/span><\/a><\/h4><\/div>

    Admission is subject to the regulations and instructions of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the university, and the approved study channel in the year of admission.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
