\nThe master\u2019s thesis entitled \u201cCoins of the Dohuk National Museum – Selected Models\u201d was defended in the Department of Archeology at the College of Archeology, University of Mosul, on Tuesday, April 2, 2024.
\nand part of it was attended by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Yasmine Abdel Karim Muhammad Ali, Assistant Professor Dr. Yasser Jaber Khalil, Assistant Dean of the College for Scientific Affairs, and a number of college staff.
\nThe thesis presented by the MA candidate (Joan Jameel Omar Abdullah) aims to highlight the role of coins as official documents issued by government systems, and they provide us with important information that increases our knowledge of the history of successive countries and their rulers. The study was divided into chapters that dealt with the history and origin of money and its development throughout the ages, and a presentation of the gold coins selected within the study models. It also dealt with silver coins (dirhams) and copper coins, then the general characteristics contained in the coins that the study dealt with, in terms of decoration and inscriptions executed on them.
\nThe study reached a set of conclusions, the most important of which was: that each caliph or ruler used to issue his own coins by using mint dies and striking them in a house called the minting house, and that the caliph or sultan personally, or someone acting on his behalf, supervised the minting of the gold dinars.
\nThe viva committee was chaired by Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Kazem Abbas from Al-Qadisiyah University, and the membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Fian Muwaffaq Rasheed and Assistant Professor Dr. Haitham Qasim Muhammad, and under the supervision and membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Muhammad Khader Mahmoud.<\/h3>\n
