\nThe doctoral thesis entitled \u201cSumerian personal names in light of the texts of the Third Dynasty of Ur\u201d was discussed in the Department of Archeology at the College of Archeology, University of Mosul, on Tuesday, June 11, 2024. And in the hall of Dr. Behnam Abu Al-Souf. It is worth to mention that the viva committee included a member from University College London in the UK via Zoom.
\nPart of the viva was attended by the Dean of the college of Archeology, Professor Dr. Yasmine Abdel Karim Muhammad Ali.
\nThe study presented by the student (Nisreen Ahmed Abdel Nuaimi) aimed to explain the forms of Sumerian personal names in the era of the Third Dynasty of Ur in Mesopotamia in light of the cuneiform texts and to analyze those names in terms of meanings, structure and significance.
\nThe study concluded with a set of conclusions, the most important of which is that the religious aspect played an important role in choosing personal names, along with other factors. This study was important in identifying the religious beliefs and the economic and social status of the name bearer in Mesopotamia.
\nThe discussion committee was chaired by the experienced Professor Dr. Nawala Ahmed Mahmoud, and the membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Mark Weeden from University College London, who specializes in the languages \u200b\u200bof the ancient Middle East, Professor Dr. Othman Ghanem Muhammad, Assistant Professor Dr. Khaled Haider Othman, and Assistant Professor Dr. Mahmoud Hamed. Ahmed, and under the supervision and membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Abazar Rahi Saadoun from Al-Muthanna University \/ College of Arts.<\/h3>\n
