The master’s thesis entitled “Non-Assyrians in Sargonic Sculptures” was defended by the student Ahmed Khair al-Din Ahmed from the Department of Archaeology on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, in Dr. Bahnam Abu al-Souf’s hall. The thesis examined non-Assyrian foreigners who appeared in Assyrian sculptures dating back to the Sargonic dynasty. The study sample was selected from the three regions adjacent to the Assyrian kingdom (the northern, southern, and western regions).
\nThe thesis also examined non-Assyrian elements who appeared in battles, as tribute bearers, or as captives and deportees. The study’s objectives were to clarify the reasons for the battles fought by the Assyrians, the most important of which was to maintain security and stability in the regions neighboring and subordinate to the Assyrian Kingdom. These objectives also included shedding light on hidden aspects contained in Assyrian sculptures, as they bear witness to an important part of the political and cultural history of the Assyrian Kingdom, alongside cuneiform inscriptions.
