The Translation Department at the College of Arts discussed a master\u2019s thesis entitled: (Problems of Translating Object of Purpose in the Noble Qur\u2019an into English), on Monday, September 18th, 2023 at Ibn Al-Atheer Hall in the College of Arts with the attendance of a number of the department teachers along with postgraduate students.<\/p>\n

The study, presented by Ahmed Hashem, at the Translation Department dealt with the problems of translating the object of purpose in the Holy Qur\u2019an, which is one of the main issues in the Arabic language in terms of structure and meaning. The study seeks to evaluate the accuracy of translation between the source text and the target text according to Larson’s translation evaluation model. Twenty verses from the Holy Qur\u2019an were randomly selected and translated into English by five translators: Muhammad Marmaduke Picktall, Dr. Mustafa Qutb, Abdullah Yusuf Ali, Muhammad Asad, and Muhammad Farouk Malik.<\/p>\n

The study revealed that the object of purpose constitutes the main obstacle for translators, and this is clearly evident in the results reached by the study. The rate of failure in translating the object of purpose was high in the semi-sentence, and this is evident in the attached tables. The study also revealed that it is not easy to deal with the object of purpose in terms of the different grammatical uses and semantic functions in the Qur\u2019anic text. Therefore, the study recommends that translators be aware When dealing with this type of verses.<\/p>\n
