<\/p>\nIn line with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research\u2019s initiative and with the support and guidance of the University of Mosul Presidency, which emphasizes engagement with various institutions and community outreach, the faculty and students of the Department of Philosophy at the College of Arts conducted a field visit today, Wednesday, November 6, 2024, to the Al-Sayeda convent
\nGuardian of Crops, also known as \u201cAl-Sayeda convent,\u201d located in Alqosh. This visit took place within the framework of the courses on Philosophy of Religion and European Philosophy in the Middle Ages. the visit program included learning of the cultural and historical heritage of the church, museum, and library within the convent. The convent was built in the 19th century, specifically in 1858, under Patriarch Mar Joseph Audo and Anba Eliasha Dahuki, the General Superior of the Antonian Order of Chaldean Monks of Hormizd. Its establishment was prompted by various reasons, including the limited space at Rabban Hormizd Monastery, which could not accommodate the growing number of monks, and the need to facilitate the monks\u2019 supervision of their agricultural activities and livestock care. Additionally, the convent\u2019s location allowed the monks to be closer to the convent\u2019s agricultural lands, which they cultivated themselves, especially during harvest season. This necessitated preparing a suitable place to accommodate the increasing number of monks, especially the elderly, to protect them from the dangers of earthquakes, harsh weather, difficult living conditions, and water scarcity.<\/p>\n
