Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, and under the supervision of Professor Dr. Mohammed Afeen, Dean of the College of Arts, as well as the President of the Spanish Comparative Moorish Andalusian Academy in Iraq and the Middle East \/ Al-Mustansiriya University, Professor Dr. Murtada Al-Yasseri, and with the joint efforts of the Unit Head, Professor Dr. Aida Mohammed, and unit members: Assistant Professor Dr. Fawaz Ahmed Mohammed Saleh, Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Jassim Mohammed, and Mr. Saif Adnan Shafiq, the Comparative Spanish Moorish Andalusian Academy Unit at the College of Arts, University of Mosul, organized an international scientific symposium titled “The Moriscos: A Cultural Heritage and Shared History.” This event was held in cooperation with the University of Oviedo in Spain, Al-Mustansiriya University, and Tikrit University on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at 10:30 AM, in the Ibn Al-Athir Hall at the College of Arts.<\/p>\n

The speakers at the symposium included:<\/p>\n

Professor Dr. Murtada Al-Yasseri, President of the Comparative Spanish Moorish Andalusian Academy in Iraq and the Middle East \/ Al-Mustansiriya University
\nProfessor Dr. Muhannad Amer Al-Tamimi \/ University of Oviedo
\nDr. Ahmed Shaheed Taiban \/ Tikrit University \/ College of Arts
\nDr. Juan Carlos \/ University of Oviedo, Spain
\nProfessor Dr. Aida Mohammed \/ Unit Head
\nMr. Saif Adnan Shafiq \/ University of Mosul \/ College of Arts
\nResearcher Mohammed Younis Al-Tayeb \/ University of Oviedo, Spain \/ College of Education
\nThe speakers presented research papers that covered various aspects of the cultural heritage and shared history of the Moriscos, exploring their impact on literature, language, architecture, and arts. In addition to the research papers, the symposium featured presentations that documented the content of these topics, including images and manuscripts highlighting the Moorish heritage and history.<\/p>\n

The symposium was attended by a number of researchers, academics, and staff members from the College of Arts. The event also included several scientific discussions and dialogues that enriched the topic of the symposium.<\/p>\n

At the end of the symposium, the participants emphasized the importance of studying the history of the Moriscos, highlighting their role in enriching cultural and human heritage. They stressed the need to enhance cooperation between Iraqi universities, research centers, and institutions, Spanish universities, and global universities in general to foster scientific and cultural exchange and to produce more studies and research in this field.<\/p>\n

At the conclusion of the symposium, His Excellency, Professor Dr. Mohammed Afan, Dean of the College of Arts, honored the participating researchers by presenting them with certificates of appreciation for their valuable contributions to the event. The Dean praised the outstanding quality of the research presented and their role in enriching the Moorish heritage. He also commended everyone involved in organizing the symposium and expressed his appreciation to the participants and attendees.<\/p>\n
