The Department of History at the College of Arts held a master’s thesis defense on Wednesday, September 10, 2025. The thesis, titled “Russia’s Stance on U.S. Policy in the Middle East, with Iran and Iraq as Case Studies (2001-2011): A Historical Study,” was attended by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Hatem Fahd Al-Tai, the Head of the Department, Dr. Mahmoud Saleh Saeed, and a number of faculty members.<\/p>\n

The study, submitted by student Ahmed Mohammed Hassan Jassim, examined the significance of Iraq and Iran and their pivotal roles in the policies of both the Russian Federation and the United States. Following the 2003 U.S. invasion, Iraq entered a new era, coming under American influence and dominance. This development significantly diminished Russia’s considerable prior influence in the country. Concurrently, Iran served as a political arena for Russian-American tension, particularly concerning the nuclear crisis.<\/p>\n

The thesis aims to highlight Russia’s position on U.S. policy toward two key countries in the Middle East, Iraq and Iran. It also explores the role Russia played in countering U.S. policy in these nations and the subsequent impact on the relationship between Russia and the United States.<\/p>\n
