The Department of English at the Faculty of Arts discussed a master’s thesis entitled “DOCTOR- PATIENT ENCOUNTERS IN MOSULI Arabic with REFERENCE TO ENGLISH: A CONVERSATIONAL ANALYSIS APPROACH,” on December 12, 2021 in the hall of Dr. Tahani Al-Sendooq at the Faculty of Dentistry.The thesis submitted by the student (Rawya Tariq Yassin) in the Department of English Language, addressed the established relationship between the language of medical dialogue and the quality of the health system, as medical communication skills are nowadays the cornerstone of modern medical education and practice, and are increasingly gaining importance all over the world. There is great interest in studying various aspects of medical discourse, as a large part of it is carried out through the linguistic analysis of the conversation.The current study aims, through the analysis of the conversation, to shed light on the doctor-patient encounters in the Mosuli Arabic dialect in an attempt to examine the different linguistic identifying characteristics, such as control, distinctive features, communication patterns, and many others.The study agreeing with well-established studies concluded that there was clear linguistic evidence that physicians’ control over dialogue and their professional authority were prevalent during the phases of the medical encounter. In addition, our findings could be of great value to local health authorities as well as in the field of medical education to enhance physician-patient communication skills.The viva committee was chaired by Prof. Kamal Hazem Hussein from the College of Education for Human Sciences at the University of Mosul, and the membership of Prof. Dr. Shefa Hadi Hamdi from Tikrit University and Assistant Professor Dr. Wafa Muzaffar Ali, with the supervision and membership of Prof. Nashwan Mustafa Salih.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
