The College of Basic Education at the University of Mosul discussed a master\u2019s thesis entitled:<\/p>\n
\u201cSemantic Development in Al-Mu\u1e25kam wa Al-Mu\u1e25\u012b\u1e6d Al-A\u2018\u1e93am by Ibn S\u012bdah (d. 458 AH): The First Five Volumes \u2013 A Study and Dictionary\u201d<\/p>\n
on Wednesday, 6\/5\/2026, in Umm Al-Rabeein Hall at the college.<\/p>\n
The thesis, submitted by the student Asmaa Rasheed Nouri from the Department of Arabic Language, aimed to study the phenomenon of semantic development in the book Al-Mu\u1e25kam wa Al-Mu\u1e25\u012b\u1e6d Al-A\u2018\u1e93am in order to reveal Ibn S\u012bdah\u2019s efforts in this field and to demonstrate the attention of early Arabic scholars to tracing the life of words and their semantic transformations throughout the ages.<\/p>\n
The study addressed several topics, including semantic shift, specification, and generalization.<\/p>\n
The study reached a number of conclusions, most notably that the semantic development mentioned in Al-Mu\u1e25kam was not random, but rather based on precise scientific principles recognized by Ibn S\u012bdah, who referred to them through clear indications reflecting his awareness of the phenomenon of semantic development.<\/p>\n
The discussion committee was chaired by Professor Dr. Rafea Ibrahim Mohammed, with the membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Walaa Hashim Ahmed, Assistant Professor Dr. Salwa Younis Khudr, and Professor Dr. Amer Baher Ismeer Al-Hayali as member and supervisor.<\/p>\n
