A New Scientific Achievement for the College of Basic Education at the University of Mosul: Registration of 12 Genetic Sequences of an Intestinal Parasite in the Global Gene Bank<\/p>\n
In a significant contribution highlighting the University of Mosul\u2019s role in global scientific research, Ms. Faten Khair Al-Din Al-Dabbagh, a faculty member in the Department of General Sciences at the College of Basic Education, University of Mosul, has successfully registered 12 genetic sequences of the parasite Dientamoeba fragilis in the database of the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI).<\/p>\n
This achievement resulted from a pioneering molecular study conducted on patient samples from Nineveh Governorate. DNA was extracted, and the SSU rRNA gene was amplified using specialized primers. The resulting genetic sequences were then analyzed and officially documented in the GenBank database under accession numbers PX069430 to PX069441.<\/p>\n
The findings of the research, published in a peer-reviewed international scientific journal, revealed the identification of Genotype 1 of the parasite in Iraq, along with three novel haplotypes exhibiting limited genetic diversity. The sequences showed similarity rates ranging from 97% to 99.7% with globally referenced strains. This study represents the second molecular contribution at the national level documenting the presence of this parasite.<\/p>\n
This achievement contributes to providing globally accessible and well-documented genetic data for researchers, supporting future studies on the epidemiology of intestinal parasites and opening broader avenues for understanding the transmission of the disease between humans and animals.<\/p>\n
