On Thursday, October 16, 2025, the Department of Prosthodontics at the College of Dentistry, University of Mosul, hosted the defense of the doctoral dissertation entitled:\u201d Three-Dimensional Finite Element Analysis of Denture Base Resin Modified by some Polymers\u201d, Forwarded by Ibtihal Hazem Hassan. The study investigated focused on evaluating several properties of Poly Methyl Methacrylate (PMMA) by incorporating it with three types of chemically compatible polymers. The study involved preparing 545 samples of heat-polymerized acrylic resin, divided into two groups:
\nControl Group: without additives
\nExperimental Group: with additives
\nThe additives included three types of polymers:
\nPolyamide polymer
\nPolyester polymer (both prepared specifically for this study)
\nFumed silica incorporated at volumetric concentrations of 1%, 3%, and 5%, separately. The findings indicated that all tested materials were biocompatible. The incorporation of polymers resulted in an acceptable color change and enhancement of several physical and mechanical properties. A decrease in flexural strength and stiffness was observed for polyamide and polyester, while a notable increase was recorded with the addition of fumed silica. Additionally, water absorption and solubility of PMMA decreased across all concentrations (1%, 3%, and 5%). Surface roughness decreased for both polyamide and polyester, whereas fumed silica showed a reduction at 1% and an increase at 3%. It was concluded by the research aimed to analysis (FEA) demonstrated a strong correlation between experimental results and the elastic modulus of each material, indicating improved stress distribution and reduced stress concentration on the denture base structure. This effect was most evident in the following order: fumed silica, polyamide, then polyester.<\/p>\n
