A doctoral dissertation in the College of Education for Pure Science, Department of Chemistry…

In fulfillment of the fourth goal of the Sustainable Development Goals (quality education), a doctoral dissertation entitled “A Study of the Electrochemical Behavior and Voltametric Estimation of Some Drugs Used to Treat Prostate Enlargement in Men” was discussed in the College of Education for Pure Science at the University of Mosul on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.
Part of the discussion was attended by the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Jassim Fatehi Ali, the Head of the Chemistry Department, Dr. Omar Thanoon Ali, and a number of the department faculty members.
The dissertation, presented by the student Mohammed Qahtan Hassan from the Department of Chemistry, examined the direct and indirect electrochemical behavior of finasteride using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) coupled to a three-electrode system consisting of a 2 mm diameter glassy carbon electrode as the working electrode, a 2 mm diameter platinum wire as the auxiliary electrode, and a reference electrode made of silver/silver chloride saturated with potassium chloride (Ag/AgCl sat KCl). Finasteride exhibited a weak reduction wave at -0.68 V. A calibration curve for finasteride was constructed using Breton-Robinson buffer solution (pH = 3). The relationship between the reduction wave current and concentration was linear within the concentration range of 0.999×10⁻⁵ – 19.607×10⁻⁵ M, with a correlation coefficient of 0.9903.
The discussion committee was chaired by Professor Dr. Imad Abdul-Ilah Saleh, and Professor Dr. Ammar Abdul-Sattar Ibrahim, Assistant Professor Dr. Huda Abdul-Razzaq Younis, Assistant Professor Dr. Nour Hazem Mohammed, and Assistant Professor Dr. Rana Hasan Ahmed as members, and Professor Dr. Amer Thanoon Abdul-Rahman and Assistant Professor Dr. Muhammad Muhammad Amin Abdullah as both members and supervisors.
The Dean of the College presented a letter of thanks and appreciation to Assistant Professor Dr. Huda Abdul-Razzaq Younis from the Northern Technical University/Mosul Technical Institute for her participation in the student’s discussion.
The doctoral dissertation was accepted. Congratulations to the student and his supervisors on this academic achievement.
