A lecturer in the College of Education for Pure Science, Department of Biology publishes a scientific research paper in a reputable scientific journal….

Assistant Professor Dr. Ghazwan Qasim Hasan, from the College of Education for Pure Science, Department of Biology, in collaboration with Ms. Shaymaa Yaseen Taha and a researcher from Saint Joseph University, published a scientific paper in Baghdad Journal of Science, which is classified in Scopus Q1 and Clarivate.
The research talked about a complete genome analysis of the bacterium Curtobacterium flaccumfaciens isolated from the crown nodules of the olive plant Olea europaea.
Analysis of the SHGH strain revealed the presence of several genes encoding enzymes associated with pathogenesis, such as pectate lyase, glycosyl hydrolase, and others. Genome analysis of the SHGH strain also showed that it contains peptidases, glycosidases, and other enzymes in regions derived from protophage. These microbes help form a biofilm and colonize with other microbes to form a microbial community, a necessary step for the development of many bacterial plant diseases, such as bacterial wilt.
We wish our faculty members success and further scientific progress.
