In fulfillment of the fourth goal (Quality Education) and ninth goal (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) of the Sustainable Development Goals, a master’s thesis entitled “A System for Recognizing Driving Behavior Using Deep Fusion of Multiple Sensors” was defended at the College of Education for Pure Sciences at the University of Mosul on Sunday, September 21, 2025.
\nPart of the thesis defense was attended by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Jassim Fatehi Ali; the Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Younis Saadi Saeed; the Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Azzam Salahuddin Younis; and a number of department faculty members.
\nThe study, presented by the student Ali Mahdi Ahmed Hussein from the Department of Computer Science, addressed a multi-level methodology for automatically monitoring and classifying driver behavior patterns, relying on integrating information from diverse sources. The first phase of the study involved extracting structural features using a modified MobileNetV1 neural architecture. The second phase focused on employing a Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (BiLSTM) model supported by a self-attention mechanism to process sequential data streams and extract multi-level temporal correlations. Experimental results indicated the proposed system’s high adaptive capacity to light variations related to changes in the intensity of ambient lighting, enhancing its practical application in the field of advanced traffic safety technologies.
\nThe discussion committee was chaired by Assistant Professor Dr. Israa Mohammed Khudr, along with Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Hazem Amin and Assistant Professor Dr. Alaa Yaseen Taha as members, and Professor Dr. Qais Ismail Ibrahim and Lecturer Dr. Karam Mu’ayyad Abdullah as both members and supervisors.
