of Mosul is a four-year, full-time undergraduate program comprising 240 ECTS credits and aligned with the Bologna Process. The program provides students with a strong foundation in Syriac grammar, syntax, and literature, followed by advanced study in the core areas of the history and development of the Syriac language, comparative linguistics, translation, and ancient and contemporary literary and historical texts. The curriculum integrates theoretical knowledge with practical applications and research and analytical activities to develop linguistic proficiency as well as research and academic skills.<\/p>\n<p>Graduates acquire the analytical, communicative, and research skills necessary for studying, critically examining, and translating manuscripts and historical documents, in addition to teaching and linguistic skills. The Department also seeks to promote the use of modern technologies and artificial intelligence in education, and to develop students\u2019 critical thinking and effective communication skills in ways that contribute to the development of the educational process and serve society. Graduates will be able to:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>Work efficiently in the field of teaching and education as teachers or subject teachers in schools where Syriac language and Christian education are taught. They may also work in official and non-official cultural and media institutions as editors, broadcasters, or program writers for Syriac-language channels or platforms, or for those concerned with Eastern heritage. In addition, they may work in research centers and museums as research assistants in the study of manuscripts, antiquities, and the rich history of the region, or as tour guides and translators in any official or non-official institution, civil society organization, or private-sector entity.<\/li>\n<li>Hold administrative and cultural positions in institutions that require specialized knowledge of the languages and cultures of indigenous communities, such as publishing houses and cultural centers. In addition, graduates will be able to identify linguistic phenomena, whether phonological or semantic, and understand the historical development of the language, enabling them to accurately distinguish between the different Syriac dialects, Eastern and Western, and the changes they have undergone throughout the ages. They will also be able to identify problems and shortcomings in modern translations of ancient texts and determine instances of linguistic or historical error or distortion.<\/li>\n<li>Apply the rules of language and composition, including grammatical and morphological rules, in a scientific and practical manner in writing, composition, and conversation. They will also apply scientific research methodologies by employing modern academic approaches to textual criticism and the critical editing of ancient Syriac manuscripts, and by relating them to their historical and social contexts. In addition, they will apply effective teaching and translation strategies using the latest effective teaching methods and rigorous translation mechanisms from and into Syriac, particularly in relation to Arabic and English.<\/li>\n<li>Use digital technologies and dictionaries through modern software, digital Syriac fonts, and specialized electronic dictionaries in conducting scientific research and academic writing, particularly with regard to authentic sources and references, such as historical and heritage sources\u2014both ecclesiastical and civil\u2014written in Syriac, in order to extract facts and knowledge and provide new critical readings. They will also employ communication and critical-thinking skills by using language as a living tool for promoting intercultural dialogue, disseminating the values of cultural and heritage diversity, and deconstructing and analyzing texts in an objective and scientifically rigorous manner.<\/li>\n<li>Participate in research or applied projects related to the critical editing, translation, and publication of ancient Syriac manuscripts in cooperation with local and international research centers. They will also contribute to the development of digital software and applications designed to serve the Syriac language, such as electronic dictionaries, language-correction programs, and digital fonts. In addition, they will cooperate with cultural and media institutions in producing visual, audio, or written content in Syriac to preserve its heritage.<\/li>\n<li>Adhere to professional ethics, safety standards, academic integrity, and the highest degree of accuracy in transmitting texts, critically editing manuscripts, and translating them without distortion or falsification, while respecting the intellectual property rights of historical and linguistic sources and research. They will also uphold their ethical responsibility to preserve Syriac heritage as a human and civilizational legacy that unites rather than divides, and to disseminate it in a spirit of tolerance and cultural openness, while ensuring the safety and preservation of rare manuscripts and historical documents when handling or restoring them in order to protect them from damage.<\/li>\n<li>Develop their professional skills through continuous learning and by keeping abreast of modern technologies, the latest linguistic studies and theories, and their application to the Syriac language and its grammatical system. They will also learn to use Digital Humanities tools and artificial intelligence in the automation and analysis of Classical and Contemporary Syriac texts.
