Gen. Qutaiba Muwaffaq Asaad, and under the supervision and follow-up of the Dean of the College of Education for Humanities, Prof. Dr. Saad Ramadan Mohammed Al-Jubouri, the College\u2014acting in line with the University President\u2019s directives to strengthen openness and cooperation with state institutions\u2014organized a joint guidance seminar in cooperation with the Nineveh Operations Command entitled: <strong>\u201cTowards a Shared Vision to Reduce the Phenomenon of Suicide.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The seminar was delivered by Prof. Dr. Yasser Mahfouz Hamed, Head of the Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences at the College of Education for Humanities. It was attended by representatives of security agencies and a number of specialized faculty members from the University of Mosul.<\/p>\n<p>The seminar shed light on suicide as a societal issue in general, and among youth in particular, addressing the progression to severe depression, examining the causes of the phenomenon, and identifying key approaches to prevention and treatment. Discussions also focused on the rise in suicide indicators within the family environment and its role in this context, the awareness-raising role of the media, the decline of religious and moral deterrents, and the diminishing role of the family in society in reducing such cases. Social and religious dimensions and contributing factors were also examined.<\/p>\n<p>Participants emphasized the importance of developing a <strong>joint national program<\/strong> through the establishment of collaborative working groups involving human rights activists, universities, civil and humanitarian society organizations, and community policing. The program aims to prevent and reduce suicide cases and to support families by addressing domestic violence, substance abuse and addiction, and by mitigating social and psychological problems through appropriate solutions using all available means.
