Prof. Dr. Yasir M.Y. Ameen. On Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2022.<br \/>In this thesis, a Dual Active Bridge (DAB) converter is adopted in the application of XFC of EV coupled with DC. The modulations of this converter within this range were studied and analyzed. Phase-Shift modulation and Trapezoidal-Current modulation were simulated using MATLAB\/Simulink software.A proposed XFC for EVs has been designed with the ability to bi-directionally transfer power from Grid-to-Vehicle G2V and from Vehicle-to-Grid V2G or to charge another vehicle V2V with a power of 1.4 MW, a DC input voltage of 11 kV and a range of output voltages from 900&ndash;1500 V, which is the highest charging voltage allowed within the CHAdeMO 3.0 standard. By relying on the DAB converter with a multi-level structure, it has been possible to dispense with the AC-AC stage in the conventional fast charger structure and thus have a smaller charger size at a lower cost with the possibility of integrating power storage systems and DC sources of renewable energy for each level of the converter.<br \/>The simulation results showed that the charging time of the heavy vehicle battery pack with a capacity of 540 kWh was reduced to only 18 minutes and 40 seconds when charged from 20% to 90% of the State-of-Charge SOC.<br \/>A laboratory model of a 1 kW bidirectional DAB converter was also built and presented using IGBT and SiC MOSFET switches.
