{"id":40824,"date":"2025-08-21T18:56:47","date_gmt":"2025-08-21T18:56:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uomosul.edu.iq\/en\/engineering\/?p=40824"},"modified":"2025-08-24T08:00:06","modified_gmt":"2025-08-24T08:00:06","slug":"40824","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uomosul.edu.iq\/en\/engineering\/2025\/08\/21\/40824\/","title":{"rendered":"Scientific Lecture on Electrical Safety at Department of Electrical Engineering"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"189\" data-end=\"696\">Within the framework of cooperation between University of Mosul and state institutions, and in pursuit of College of Engineering\u2019s mission to promote scientific activities and to contribute to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals\u2014particularly Goal 11 <em data-start=\"479\" data-end=\"517\">\u201cSustainable Cities and Communities\u201d<\/em> and Goal 17 <em data-start=\"530\" data-end=\"560\">\u201cPartnerships for the Goals\u201d<\/em>\u2014 Department of Electrical Engineering organized a scientific lecture entitled <em data-start=\"642\" data-end=\"663\">\u201cElectrical Safety\u201d<\/em> on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"698\" data-end=\"885\">The event was designed for a group of engineers from Mosul Municipality with the objective of enhancing their scientific and professional competencies in the field of electrical safety.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"887\" data-end=\"1100\">The lecture was jointly delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Yasser Mohammed Younis, Assistant Professor Dr. Dawood Najm Saleh, and Lecturer Dr. Riyadh Zaki Sabri. It addressed several core themes, most notably:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1101\" data-end=\"1772\">\n<li data-start=\"1101\" data-end=\"1238\">\n<p data-start=\"1103\" data-end=\"1238\">Grounding systems, their classifications, and their vital role in dissipating fault currents to mitigate the risks of electric shock.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1239\" data-end=\"1437\">\n<p data-start=\"1241\" data-end=\"1437\">Lightning Protection Systems (LPS), including air terminals, down conductors, and grounding electrodes, with an overview of design methods such as the rolling sphere, mesh, and protective angle.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1438\" data-end=\"1553\">\n<p data-start=\"1440\" data-end=\"1553\">Soil testing procedures to determine electrical resistivity and to calculate the required grounding resistance.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1554\" data-end=\"1772\">\n<p data-start=\"1556\" data-end=\"1772\">Recent updates in international codes and standards (IEC 62305, IEC 60364, NFPA 780), with emphasis on strategies for their adaptation and implementation in the local context to ensure the highest levels of safety.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1774\" data-end=\"2087\">This academic activity underscores the commitment of College of Engineering \u2013 University of Mosul to fostering an advanced educational and scientific environment, disseminating specialized knowledge, and cultivating engineering skills that contribute to community service and the promotion of public safety.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1774\"
