Thesis in Department of Electrical Engineering on Reflecting Intelligent Surfaces for 5G and beyond Communications Systems"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ph.D. Thesis was discussed in Department of Electrical Engineering \/ College of Engineering at University of Mosul entitled \u201cReflecting Intelligent Surfaces for 5G and beyond Communications Systems\u201d, Supervised by Assist. Prof. Dr. Saad Ahmed Ayoob On Sunday, August 31, 2025.<br \/>\nThe Thesis presented by Hiba Abdalkhalq Hamdoon Alsawaf aimed to investigate the Intelligent Reflecting Surface (IRS) technology, which represents an innovative approach to enhancing the performance of wireless communication networks through dynamic control of electromagnetic wave propagation characteristics, as well as in channel estimation.<br \/>\nThe thesis discussed Performance Evaluation of Channel Estimation for Multiple Users and Various Communication Models Operating in Millimeter-Wave Bands with the Presence of Intelligent Reflecting Surfaces. Several algorithms were proposed for compressed sensing-based channel estimation, in addition to deep learning algorithms. Furthermore, a design was suggested to address the effect of beam splitting in the presence of intelligent reflecting surfaces.<br \/>\nThe results showed that channel estimation with intelligent reflecting surfaces reduces pilot overhead while maintaining high accuracy, whereas deep learning models improve channel estimation accuracy in high-dimensional environments. Moreover, mitigating the beam splitting phenomenon contributed to enhanced beam steering and reduced signal loss.<br \/>\nThe current study is considered a sustainable study to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 9 &#8220;Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure&#8221; and Goal 11 &#8220;Sustainable Cities and Communities,&#8221; by improving the efficiency of spectral and energy resource use in wireless communication networks, and reducing waste associated with excess measurements and high computational complexity. Smart reflective surface technology and deep learning models have also contributed to the development of more flexible and reliable communication networks, making future networks more efficient and sustainable.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyload alignnone size-medium wp-image-40998\"
