<\/p>\nAs part of the Continuing Education Program and in pursuit of the first, second, third, and eleventh goals of the Sustainable Development Goals, the Environmental Research Center at the University of Mosul organized a training course titled “Sustainable Food Security: Challenges and Solutions” on Sunday, April 27, 2025, and continuing until May 5, 2025.<\/p>\n
The first day of the course included two scientific lectures. The first lecture, titled “Genetically Modified Foods and Their Relationship with Food Security,” was delivered by Dr. Mai Abdul Hafez.<\/p>\n
She addressed the concept of genetically modified foods and genetic modifications aimed at improving the quality of agricultural crops and making them more resistant to difficult environmental conditions, such as drought. This contributes to increasing agricultural production to address rapid population growth and eliminate hunger.<\/p>\n
The second lecture, presented by Professor Zakaria Nafie Mahmoud, was titled “The Impact of Climate Change on Food Security.” He reviewed the challenges posed by climate change to global agricultural production, resulting from rising temperatures, rainfall disturbances, and increased natural disasters. These challenges lead to higher food prices, disrupted supply chains, and exacerbated economic crises in fragile agricultural countries.<\/p>\n
This course aims to highlight the importance of developing climate-resilient crops, adopting smart agricultural technologies, and enhancing international cooperation to ensure sustainable food security<\/p>\n
