The training course “Towards Corruption-Free Sustainable Development: Policies and Strategies” continues for the second day at the Environmental Research Center at the University of Mosul on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.<\/p>\n

The second day began with a lecture by Professor Musab Abdul-Jabbar Abdul-Baqi, titled “Desertification in Iraq and Its Relationship to Human Migration.” He addressed the worsening effects of desertification as a driver of internal migration and human trafficking, resulting from the degradation of agricultural land, scarcity of water resources, and the loss of stable livelihoods, particularly in rural areas. In his lecture, he emphasized that forced displacement creates vulnerable communities suffering from poor protection and a lack of basic services, making them vulnerable to exploitation and abuse.<\/p>\n

This was followed by a lecture by Dr. Riyad Mahmoud Saleh, titled “Emergent Environmental Problems Leading to Human Trafficking.” He explained the direct relationship between environmental crises and societal challenges, noting that environmental degradation can lead to the emergence of environments fraught with social risks, most notably human trafficking. This calls for the adoption of comprehensive environmental and social approaches to address these issues effectively and sustainably.<\/p>\n
