The first day of the course began with two scientific lectures.<\/p>\n
The first, presented by Professor Musab Abdul-Jabbar Abdul-Baqi, addressed the worsening drought crisis in Iraq in general and Nineveh Governorate in particular, and the resulting decline in water bodies and agricultural production, as well as the increased rates of migration.<\/p>\n
In his lecture, he emphasized the importance of adopting water harvesting techniques, reusing wastewater, and adopting modern irrigation and agricultural methods. This, in addition to diversifying agricultural crops, raising community awareness, and developing national plans for managing water and agricultural resources in coordination between state institutions and civil society, is considered adaptive solutions to mitigate the repercussions of the crisis.<\/p>\n
The second lecture, presented by Dr. Sahar Adnan Sheet, addressed the negative environmental impact of restaurant and caf\u00e9 service activities on various environmental elements, including air, water, and soil. She emphasized the importance of implementing sustainable environmental management practices to mitigate these impacts and improve the quality of the urban environment.<\/p>\n
The course supports the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), Goal 13 (Climate Action), and Goal 15 (Life on Land).<\/p>\n
This course also underscores the University of Mosul’s role in promoting environmental awareness and contributing to finding scientific solutions to current environmental problems.<\/p>\n
