Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, and the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Saba Khair Al-Din Ibrahim, Director of the Center,<\/p>\n

the Environmental Research Center at the University of Mosul held a scientific awareness workshop entitled \u201cThe Dangers of Cyber \u200b\u200bExtortion and its Effects on Society\u201d on Wednesday, November 26, 2025.<\/p>\n

The workshop was organized in cooperation with the Sustainable Development Unit and the Human Rights Division at the University Presidency, and the Public Relations and Media Department of the Nineveh Police Command \u2013 Friends of the Interior Division.<\/p>\n

The lecture was presented by Major Hardan Mohammed Khalaf, Director of the Friends of the Interior Division.<\/p>\n

The workshop addressed the concept of cyber extortion, which is considered one of the most dangerous digital crimes. In this type of crime, extortionists exploit electronic means to threaten individuals in order to obtain material or moral gain. The use of social media platforms has made this type of crime increasingly common, highlighting the importance of raising awareness about methods of prevention and digital protection.<\/p>\n

The workshop addressed the negative impact of cyber extortion on society, noting that it spreads fear, insecurity, and psychological pressure on individuals, threatens their reputations, and undermines family and social stability. The workshop also emphasized the need to enhance community and legal awareness to curb this phenomenon and prevent its negative effects.<\/p>\n

At the conclusion of the workshop, certificates of participation were distributed to Major Hardan Mohammed Khalaf, Director of the Friends of the Interior Division, and several members of the Nineveh Police Command.<\/p>\n

This workshop is part of the center’s ongoing scientific efforts to contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions).<\/p>\n
