The division aims to build an integrated library system that facilitates possible access to knowledge and information sources and ensures the library\u2019s development in line with the requirements of scientific research and university education. The Division is also considered an organized knowledge portal that contributes to improving the efficiency of services provided to the users and supports the process of digitalization and continuous updating of library collections<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Second: Division\u2019s tasks include:<\/p>\n<p>1- Supply\u2019s tasks<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Selecting and acquiring information sources through purchase, donation or exchange according to specific criteria including objective modernization and quality of printing and binding.<\/p>\n<p>-Auditing all recent sources in supply records to reduce repetition of sources.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Registering selected sources in accordance with library policy and including them in comprehensive registration records, both paper and automated, after stamping them with the supply stamp in specific places.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Pasting RFID labels (Tags) on all books and university theses after adopting the Automated Catalog System (Koha) and placing self-borrowing devices in the library hall..<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Depositing some books in branch libraries and research centers to meet their needs according to official records.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Providing practical training for students of the Department of Information and Knowledge Technologies, in addition to summer training for students.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>2-Cataloguing and classification tasks include :<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; \u00a0Organizing information sources through descriptive cataloguing according to Anglo-American cataloguing rules (second edition), and objective cataloguing using the Dewey Decimal Classification system (23rd edition), based on the standard Arabic topics header lists of Shaaban Abdul Aziz Khalifa<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Placing Arabic and foreign lables on the technically processed sources, and sending them to the library halls to be ready for use<\/p>\n<p>3-Dedication\u2019s and exchange\u2019s tasks include:<\/p>\n<p>Receiving sources of information coming from donors, whether individuals or organizations &#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Sorting sources and isolating what does not suit with library policy &#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Establishing electronic lists of donated resources and prepare books of thanks for donors \u00a0&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Organizing lists of repeated books to be donated to branch libraries or other authorities.<\/p>\n<p>-Activating the exchange of books and documents with other libraries when needed and requested<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>4-Resources and Manuscripts Conservation\u00a0 and Restoration Unit<\/p>\n<p>-The unit was developed within the Central Library Restoration Project adopted by UNESCO. at the beginning of July 2025 work on the unit began in its new form. The unit was equipped with a set of devices and tools for (conservation , maintenance, restoration and binding). The unit&#8217;s employees were trained on the new methods of maintenance and restoration and on the devices assigned to the unit.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0 Preserving, restoring and conservation the\u00a0 important resources such as rare books, manuscripts, printed periodical volumes, various documents and damaged publications to ensure their continued use by future generations and to preserve the city&#8217;s cultural heritage.<br \/>\n&#8211; Keeping\u00a0 rare and library collections from damage through binding and regular maintenance.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Using the artificial intelligence tools to make\u00a0 the identification cards for some damaged or corrupted resources which its\u00a0 bibliographic data is difficult to access due to \u00a0damage and the obsolescence of their papers, especially the pages of the title.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Preparing electronic lists of all resources that have been bound, maintained and restored.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Digiltalizing\u00a0 the rare books and important manuscripts after their conservation and restoration.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>5-Automated catalog unit<\/p>\n<p>The division includes a vital unit concerned with organizing library collections and linking branch libraries to the central catalog. Its tasks include<\/p>\n<p>Preparing bibliographic records for books and university theses.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 &#8211;<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; \u00a0Importing bibliographic recordings from the OCLC international database via the Z39.50 protocol to search for( title, author, subject, ISBN number , the publisher).<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Importing the bibliographic recordings from the Unified Arabic Catalog.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Importing the author\u2019s authority recordings and\u00a0 the subject headers from the Unified Arabic Catalog.<\/p>\n<p>-Linking the branch libraries of Mosul University colleges and centers to the automated catalog of the Central Library<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Following up on the work of those authorized in branch libraries and answering their inquiries continuously.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Preparing statistics and annual reports on interventions on the system<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Organizing specialized training courses on the Automated Catalog System of Koha for employees and summer training students.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Third: The basic activities of the division<\/p>\n<p>-Recording all sources in comprehensive registration records and sorting the repeated copies to donate to the other university\u2019s libraries,<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Holding specialized courses in cataloguing, classification, supplying and automated.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Providing the technical advice to staff of branch libraries and other libraries.<\/p>\n<p>-Facilitating the possible access of research and postgraduate students to the required resources.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; \u00a0Receiving the educational tours for school and university students to introduce them to the role of the library and its services.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; \u00a0Preparing weekly, monthly, and annual statistics for all technical processes in the library.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Receiving summer training students and training them on supply\u2019s procedures, cataloguing, and books conservation.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Participation in exhibitions, festivals and events organized by the university to enhance the library&#8217;s position.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Fourth: The Modern technologies used<br \/>\nThe Division aims to adopt the latest library technologies to improve and develop the quality of services, including:.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Automated Catalog (Koha): Connects the library to branch libraries and provides\u00a0 an electronic access to resources and modernizing databases continuously.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; RFID technology :is stands for\u00a0 (Radio Frequency Identification),it is one of the most important modern technologies used to automate the library work, especially in automated borrowing in university libraries.as It helps speed up the\u00a0 services, reduces human effort, and improves the library collection management. This service is intertwined with the Technical Procedures Division and the Beneficiary Services Division.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Fifth: Future directions of the division<br \/>\n&#8211; Expanding the automated catalog base to connect all university libraries to a unified digital repository.<br \/>\n&#8211; Increasing the digitalization of old and rare paper sources to ensure their preservation and electronic access.<br \/>\n&#8211; Improving\u00a0 the electronic services to facilitate remote search and borrowing for the users<br \/>\n&#8211; Providing more advanced training programs for employees and summer training students.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Developing and expanding the scope of work in the Resources and Manuscripts Conservation and Restoration Unit, providing all primary devices and tools for the unit, and participating locally and internationally in courses to support and develop the unit&#8217;s staff.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>First: An overview of the division The Technical Procedures Division is one of the main pillars of the Central Library, as it represents the cornerstone of the library work and the organization of library collections from all sources.
