Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, and under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Humam Ghanim Ibraahim, Dean of the College of Medicine, and in implementation of the Third National Strategy for Women, Security, and Peace\/Pillar of Protection and Prevention, the Women’s Committee at the College of Medicine in collaboration with the Women’s Affairs Unit at the university presidency organized a specialized workshop on women’s health titled: “Anemia: General Information and Tips for Pregnant Women.” This took place on Monday, April 28, 2025, in the Community Medicine Hall (1) in the Scientific departments Building at the College of Medicine.
\nThe workshop included the following lectures:
\n1. “A Comprehensive Overview of Anemia and Its Types” by Dr. Banan Burhan Muhammad, a specialist in Pathological Histology.
\n2. “The Impact of Anemia on Human Health” by Dr. Samar Saleh Saadi, a specialist in Hematology.
\n3. “Anemia during Pregnancy: What You Need to Know and Treatment Methods” by Dr. Heba Ahmed Suhail, a specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
\nThe target beneficiaries were female faculty members and staff of the college.
\nThe objectives of the workshop were:
\n1. To increase awareness of anemia by understanding the disease, its types, causes, and common symptoms.
\n2. To identify dietary and environmental factors that can lead to anemia.
\n3. To provide information on how anemia is diagnosed and to clarify available treatment options, including medications and dietary supplements.
\n4. To educate pregnant women on how to recognize symptoms of anemia during this critical period.
\n5. To provide specific dietary tips on iron-rich foods, folic acid, and essential vitamins to promote health during pregnancy.
\n6. To explain the importance of regular check-ups during pregnancy to detect and treat anemia in a timely manner.
\nRecommendations:
\n– Ensure a balanced diet rich in iron, folic acid, and vitamin B12.
\n– Avoid drinking tea and coffee immediately after meals and increase consumption of vitamin C (such as oranges and tomatoes) to enhance iron absorption.
\n– Do not ignore symptoms like severe fatigue or dizziness; regularly consult a doctor for blood tests and follow-up.
\n– Seek early health support if symptoms appear or if there is a previous history of anemia.<\/p>\n
