Under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Prof. Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, and under the supervision and in the presence of the Dean of the College of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Humam Ghanim Ibraahim Zubeir, the Department of Microbiology at the College of Medicine, in collaboration with the Entrepreneurship Unit and within the activities of the Continuing Education Unit, held its annual scientific symposium entitled “Frontiers in Medical Microbiology: Innovations and Emerging Applications”. The symposium was held in Al-Razi Hall at the College of Medicine on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.<\/p>\n

The symposium aimed to review the latest developments and innovations in the field of medical microbiology, highlight modern applications in diagnosis and treatment, and promote scientific research and the exchange of expertise among researchers and academics. This contributes to the development of health services and the advancement of academic and research standards.<\/p>\n

The symposium was attended by a select group of professors, doctors, postgraduate students, and staff from the Nineveh Health Directorate. It included two scientific sessions that addressed advanced topics such as: monitoring infection and immune response in organ transplant patients, applications of bioinformatics in genetic prediction and autoimmune diseases, non-antibiotic therapies to combat multidrug-resistant pathogens, CRISPR-Cas technology in modern microbiology, as well as gut microbiome and immunity, Hantaviruses, applications of artificial intelligence in microbial diagnosis, and prospects for developing vaccines against schistosomiasis.<\/p>\n

The symposium concluded with a number of recommendations, most notably: adopting measurement and enhancing the use of bioinformatics, artificial intelligence, and CRISPR-Cas technology in diagnosis and treatment development. It also emphasized the rational use of antibiotics to reduce antimicrobial resistance, thereby contributing to improving the quality of health services. The Ministry of Health is considered the primary beneficiary of these recommendations.<\/p>\n

This symposium comes within the framework of the University of Mosul’s commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goals 3, 4, and 5<\/p>\n
