College of Pharmacy Organizes a Scientific Lecture on Quorum Sensing Mechanisms and Their Prospects in Combating Antibiotic Resistance
\nAs part of its continuous education programs and its commitment to fostering scientific momentum and keeping pace with recent research developments in pharmaceutical and medical sciences, the Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences at the College of Pharmacy organized a specialized scientific lecture titled “Introduction to Quorum Sensing” on Tuesday, February 24, 2026. The lecture was held at the Ibn al-Baitar Hall, in the presence of Assistant Professor Dr. Mohanad Imad Al-Qazzaz, Associate Dean for Scientific Affairs, and Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Najm Abed, Head of the Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences, along with several faculty members and researchers.
\nThe lecture was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Karam Amer Al-Dabbagh, who presented a comprehensive scientific introduction to the concept of Quorum Sensing. He addressed the definition of the term, its significance in microbiology, its various types, and its regulatory mechanisms. Furthermore, he elucidated the chemical structures involved and the role of Quorum Sensing in coordinating collective bacterial behavior. The lecture also highlighted modern research trends that leverage the understanding of these mechanisms to develop innovative therapeutic approaches aimed at mitigating bacterial resistance to antibiotics\u2014a critical global health challenge.
\nThe event witnessed fruitful scientific interaction and constructive discussions, reflecting the keen interest of the academic and research staff in such vital topics. These discussions underscored the importance of integrating scientific research with clinical applications.
