A Ph.D. dissertation defense was held at the College of Political Science \u2013 Al-Nahrain University for Assistant Lecturer Hind Ziyad Nafi\u2019, a faculty member in the Department of International Relations at the College of Political Science \u2013 University of Mosul. The dissertation was entitled: “Patterns of Change in European States\u2019 Strategies in Light of the Russian-Ukrainian War: The German Strategy as a Case Study.” The defense took place on Tuesday, 8 July 2025.<\/h4>\n

The examination committee was chaired by Professor Amer Hashem Awad and included several academic members, among them Professor Hazem Hamad Mousa, Head of the Department of International Relations at the College of Political Science \u2013 University of Mosul.<\/h4>\n

The dissertation explored the significant strategic shifts experienced by European states in the aftermath of the Russian-Ukrainian war. Confronted with unprecedented security and economic challenges, these states were compelled to reassess their defense and alliance policies. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) saw its role reinforced as a cornerstone of European security. Many countries increased their military spending and adopted more assertive policies toward Russia, especially as security threats became more pronounced. Additionally, European states accelerated efforts to reduce their dependence on Russian energy, seeking to diversify their energy sources and invest more heavily in renewable energy and infrastructure independent of Russia.<\/h4>\n

Following the defense, the committee announced its decision to accept the dissertation and awarded the candidate the degree of Doctor of Philosophy.<\/h4>\n

On this occasion, the Dean\u2019s Office of the College of Political Science \u2013 University of Mosul extended its congratulations on this academic achievement, expressing its best wishes for continued scientific and research excellence among its faculty members, God willing.<\/h4>\n
