In line with the Sustainable Development Goals \u2014 Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, and Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals \u2014 the College of Political Science at Tikrit University hosted the defense of a master\u2019s thesis submitted by student Ahmed Mohammed Jassim, titled \u201cForeign Military Presence in the Horn of Africa After 2015,\u201d on Sunday, 10 August 2025.<\/h4>\n

The defense committee was chaired by Professor Hazem Hamad Mousa, Head of the Department of International Relations at the College of Political Science, University of Mosul, alongside other faculty members.<\/h4>\n

The study examined the strategic importance of the Horn of Africa, highlighting the reasons behind the presence of international and regional forces in the region, as well as the impact of events in Yemen, Syria, Iran, and Palestine. It also presented a range of future scenarios for foreign presence in the region, suggesting that increased international and regional competition would lead to a greater military presence serving the interests of these powers, securing their influence, and strengthening their capabilities.<\/h4>\n

The findings emphasized that various international and regional powers view the Horn of Africa as a strategically significant and influential geographical location.<\/h4>\n

Following the defense, the committee announced its decision to accept the thesis and award the student the degree of Master\u2019s.<\/h4>\n

For its part, the Dean\u2019s Office of the College of Political Science at the University of Mosul congratulated its faculty members on this academic achievement, wishing them continued success and excellence in their academic and research endeavors.<\/h4>\n
