Within the framework of promoting academic research and analyzing geopolitical transformations in the region, and under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Prof. Dr. Waheed Mahmood Al-Ibrahimi, and with the supervision of the Dean of the Faculty of Political Science, Assist. Prof. Dr. Suhaib Khaled Jassim, and the Director of the Regional Studies Center, Assist. Prof. Dr. Tariq Mohammad Taieb Al-Qassar, the Faculty of Political Science, in cooperation with the Regional Studies Center, organized a joint seminar entitled Iran, Israel, and Pathways of Regional Escalation in the East, entitled Iran, Israel, and Pathways of Regional Escalation in the Middle
\nEast, on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
\nThe seminar addressed one of the most sensitive issues in the region, shedding light on the dimensions of the Iranian-Israeli conflict by reading the historical and political roots of the relationship between the two parties from the Iranian revolution in 1979 to the current stage, and explaining its transformation from a strategic intersection to an open multidimensional conflict.
\nThe seminar also discussed current and potential escalation scenarios, reviewing the tools used by both sides, with a focus on the regional and international repercussions, especially on the security of the Arab Gulf, the stability of the Levant, and the balances in the Red Sea.<\/p>\n

The discussions analyzed the role of major powers such as America, Russia and China in managing or fueling the conflict, in addition to exploring its direct and indirect impact on Iraq in terms of national security and Baghdad’s potential political role as a mediator or neutral actor.<\/p>\n

The seminar came in the context of supporting academic understanding of the dynamics of conflict in the Middle East, and the contribution of universities and research centers in producing in-depth analytical insights that serve decision-makers and promote a culture of dialogue and critical thinking in the face of complex geopolitical challenges.<\/p>\n
