Regional Studies Center at the University of Mosul organized on September 9, 2025, an academic seminar that examined the dimensions of Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia\u2019 Al-Sudani\u2019s visit to NATO headquarters in Brussels. The session aimed to analyze the political, security, and strategic implications of the visit and its impact on Iraq\u2019s future and its international and regional relations.<\/p>\n

Researchers emphasized that the security dimension of the visit lies in strengthening Iraq\u2019s position as a strategic partner for NATO and seeking to benefit from its expertise in developing defense and deterrence systems, in line with the government\u2019s commitment to confining arms to state control and reforming security institutions. At the political level, Al-Sudani\u2019s speech highlighted Iraq\u2019s pursuit of balance in foreign policy, reaffirming national independence in decision-making and openness to all partners.<\/p>\n

The discussion also addressed the regional dimension, noting Iraq\u2019s role as a stabilizing factor in the Middle East, with clear stances on critical issues such as the Syrian crisis, the Palestinian question, and the Iranian nuclear file. Participants underscored that this approach reflects a new Iraqi vision aimed at building long-term partnerships and turning security challenges into opportunities for development.<\/p>\n

The seminar was framed within the context of supporting the Sustainable Development Goals, including Goal 4 (Quality Education) through knowledge dissemination, Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by fostering dialogue, and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through discussion of international cooperation.<\/p>\n
