Regional Studies Center at the University of Mosul organized a seminar titled \u201cInternational Recognition of the State of Palestine and its Regional and Global Implications\u201d. The seminar was headed by Assist. Prof. Dr. Tareq Mohammad Tayeb Dhahir, Director of the Center, highlighted by the participation of leading academics: Prof. Dr. Imad Khalil Ibrahim, Assist. Prof. Dr. Fares Turki Mahmood, and Assist. Prof. Dr. Batool Halil Jubair. The event was held on Wednesday, September 24, 2025.<\/p>\n

The seminar aimed to analyze the dimensions of international recognition of Palestine as a pivotal step in the course of the Palestinian cause, and to review its potential impact on both the regional and international arenas, particularly in terms of political balances, multilateral diplomacy, and implications for human rights and sustainable development in the region.<\/p>\n

The discussion featured interventions focusing on the legal and political aspects as well as the historical context of international recognition, and its effect on Palestine\u2019s status in international organizations. It also addressed key questions: To what extent could this recognition support regional stability? Would it truly contribute to reducing conflict hotspots? What would the borders of the state look like? And does it constitute Palestine\u2019s actual legal entitlement? Researchers also examined the extent to which such recognition could advance the Sustainable Development Goals, including poverty eradication (Goal 1), quality education (Goal 4), gender equality (Goal 5), reducing inequalities (Goal 10), and peace, justice, and strong institutions (Goal 16).<\/p>\n

At the conclusion of the seminar, participants stressed the need to give special attention to the Arab\u2013Zionist conflict in the seminars and academic discussions organized by the Center, given its significant and far-reaching implications for Iraq\u2019s stability and security.<\/p>\n
