The Regional Studies Center, in cooperation with the Human Rights Unit and the Women’s Affairs Unit at the Center, held a scientific seminar entitled \u201cDomestic Violence Against Women in Iraq: Causes and Remedies,\u201d presented by Assist. Prof. Dr. Batool Halil Jubair on Sunday, October 26, 2025.<\/p>\n

The seminar aimed to diagnose the deep-rooted causes of the scourge of domestic violence against women in Iraqi society and propose practical visions to reduce it, stemming from the university’s community role and responsibility in addressing pressing social issues.<\/p>\n

The session, attended by a group of academics and researchers, addressed several themes. It focused on analyzing the complex, underlying causes of this phenomenon, which range from social, economic, to psychological factors. It also highlighted the profound negative impacts of this violence on family and societal cohesion.<\/p>\n

Regarding solutions, emphasis was placed on adopting a comprehensive strategy. This begins with enacting deterrent laws that protect women and guarantee their rights, followed by implementing awareness programs targeting all segments of society to promote a culture of equality and respect for women’s rights. The strategy also underscored the necessity of enhancing women’s economic empowerment for their independence and the psychosocial rehabilitation of victims.<\/p>\n

This activity aligns with the university’s commitment to achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. It directly contributes to Goal 5: Gender Equality and Empowering all Women and Girls, and Goal 10: Reduced Inequality. Furthermore, it supports Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being by focusing on the mental health of women, Goal 4: Quality Education through spreading awareness, and Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions by advocating for the rule of law and combating all forms of violence.<\/p>\n
