Regional Studies Center, in cooperation with the University Presidency \/ Department of Studies & Planning \/ Sustainable Development Unit, held an academic workshop titled \u201cThe Social Framework for Women\u2019s Participation in the Tourism Sector in Post-Conflict Communities and Its Regional Implications \u2013 Mosul Case Study\u201d on Sunday, December 7, 2025. The event was attended by researchers and specialists in women\u2019s issues, development, and tourism.<\/p>\n

The workshop aimed to examine social factors influencing women\u2019s presence in the tourism sector following conflict, highlighting their role in rebuilding cultural identity and boosting the local economy in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals \u2014 especially: No Poverty (Goal 1), Good Health and Well-being (3), Quality Education (4), Gender Equality (5), Decent Work and Economic Growth (8), Reduced Inequalities (10), Sustainable Cities and Communities (11), Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (16), and Partnerships for the Goals (17).<\/p>\n

The workshop covered several themes, including social challenges faced by women in Mosul, the role of tourism in supporting stability, and field-based findings on how women can be empowered and reintegrated in a sector considered a cornerstone of societal recovery.<\/p>\n

In closing, the participants affirmed the importance of establishing support and training programs to increase women\u2019s participation in tourism activities, and stressed enhancing institutional cooperation to ensure sustainable efforts aimed at revitalizing tourism and building a more balanced society in the aftermath of conflict.<\/p>\n
