Regional Studies Center \/ Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Studies and Planning Department \/ Sustainable Development Unit at the Presidency of the University of Mosul, organized a seminar entitled \u201cAdopting Electronic Systems and Their Importance in Curbing Corruption , Electronic Payment as a Model\u201d. The seminar was delivered by Lecturer Ahmad Ghazi Taher Al-Obaidi on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, and was attended by a number of researchers, faculty members, and stakeholders interested in administrative and economic affairs.<\/p>\n

The seminar addressed the importance of transitioning to electronic systems in government institutions as one of the most prominent modern approaches to reducing administrative and financial corruption. This transition enhances procedural transparency, minimizes human intervention, and ensures better control over financial operations, particularly through the adoption of electronic payment systems as an effective tool for organizing transactions and reducing opportunities for manipulation and waste.<\/p>\n

The speaker also highlighted the positive impact of adopting electronic payment systems in accelerating transaction processing, improving institutional performance efficiency, and strengthening citizens\u2019 trust in government institutions. In addition, he emphasized their role in building accurate databases that support decision-making and the development of public policies.<\/p>\n

At the regional level, the seminar shed light on Iraq\u2019s position in the field of digital transformation. It was noted that Iraq has made noticeable progress in adopting certain electronic payment tools compared to a number of countries in the region; however, the next phase requires intensified efforts to develop digital infrastructure, expand financial inclusion, and benefit from the experiences of leading regional countries in this field.<\/p>\n

The seminar concluded by stressing the importance of continuing to organize scientific and intellectual events that contribute to raising awareness of digital transformation and supporting anti-corruption efforts, in line with the requirements of administrative reform and good governance in Iraq. It was also noted that adopting electronic payment represents a strategic step toward supporting sustainable development, particularly the following Sustainable Development Goals: Quality Education (4), Decent Work and Economic Growth (8), Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (9), Reduced Inequalities (10), Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (16), and Partnerships for the Goals (17).<\/p>\n
