Regional Studies Center \/ Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Presidency of the University of Mosul \/ Department of Studies and Planning \/ Sustainable Development Unit, organized a seminar on Sunday, April 5, 2026, titled \u201cBuilding a Culture of Citizenship in Iraq: A Challenge that Requires Response.\u201d The session was delivered by Prof. Dr. Mithaq Khairallah Jaloud, with the participation of a number of academics, researchers, and individuals interested in societal affairs.<\/p>\n
The seminar aimed to highlight the importance of consolidating the concept of citizenship as a foundation for social stability and sustainable development, as well as promoting the values of peaceful coexistence and national belonging. It also sought to address the challenges facing the development of this culture amid ongoing political and social transformations, and to explore ways to overcome them through education and community awareness.<\/p>\n
The speaker addressed several key themes, including the role of educational institutions in promoting citizenship, and the importance of reducing social disparities and achieving justice, in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions).<\/p>\n
The seminar concluded by emphasizing the need for concerted academic and institutional efforts to foster a culture of citizenship as a fundamental pillar for building a cohesive society that contributes to achieving sustainable development in Iraq.<\/p>\n
