The event was attended by Mr. Ahmed Ezz Al-Din, representing the Head of the Human Rights Division at the University of Mosul, along with a number of academics, researchers, and individuals interested in issues of security, peace, and state-building.<\/p>\n<p>The seminar examined the security, political, and social dimensions of the Speicher Massacre, which remains one of the most horrific terrorist crimes in contemporary Iraq. Discussions also focused on the circumstances that contributed to the tragedy and its repercussions for Iraq\u2019s national security trajectory. Participants further highlighted the importance of documenting the massacre as an integral part of Iraq\u2019s national memory and emphasized the need to draw lessons from it to strengthen the capacity of both the state and society to confront extremism and terrorism.<\/p>\n<p>Speakers stressed that commemorating the Speicher Massacre extends beyond honoring the victims; it also provides an opportunity to reassess Iraq\u2019s experience in combating terrorism, promote the values of citizenship and social cohesion, and reinforce a culture of civil peace and justice. Such efforts, they noted, are essential to safeguarding future generations from the dangers of extremist ideologies and violence.<\/p>\n<p>At the conclusion of the seminar, participants underscored the importance of supporting research and studies on preventing violent extremism, enhancing community awareness programs, and documenting terrorist crimes in accordance with scientific and legal standards. These measures, they affirmed, contribute to preserving the national memory and upholding the principles of justice and accountability.<\/p>\n<p>The seminar forms part of the Regional Studies Center\u2019s ongoing efforts to raise awareness of security and societal issues related to peacebuilding and stability.
