Prof. Dr. Tareq Mohammad Tayeb Al-Qassar, the Center organized its 65th Scientific Symposium, entitled \u201cThe Tourism Reality in Nineveh Governorate in a Changing Regional Environment: Opportunities and Challenges\u201d, on Monday, June 22, 2026. The event brought together a distinguished group of academics, researchers, and specialists interested in tourism affairs.<\/p>\n<p>The symposium aimed to highlight the tourism potential of Nineveh Governorate and explore practical approaches for developing this vital sector in ways that contribute positively to economic and social development. Discussions focused on several key themes, including archaeological, cultural, and natural heritage sites and their role in attracting investment and stimulating tourism activity. Participants also examined the major challenges facing the tourism sector and explored mechanisms to address them through scientific planning and institutional cooperation.<\/p>\n<p>Speakers emphasized the importance of strengthening the role of universities and research centers in supporting local development through academic studies and evidence-based recommendations. They also stressed the need to enhance tourism infrastructure and services while preserving the governorate\u2019s cultural and environmental heritage. Furthermore, the symposium underscored the sector\u2019s contribution to achieving several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).<\/p>\n<p>The symposium concluded with a call for adopting a comprehensive strategic vision for the development of tourism in Nineveh Governorate and maximizing the benefits of its historical, cultural, and natural assets.
