Under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Prof. Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, and under the supervision of the Center\u2019s Director, Assist. Prof. Dr. Tareq Mohammad Tayeb Al-Qassar, the Regional Studies Center at the University of Mosul held its 67th scientific symposium, entitled \u201cWomen\u2019s Rights in Light of Contemporary Challenges,\u201d on Wednesday, 14 October 2026. The symposium was organized as part of efforts to raise awareness of women\u2019s rights and promote the principles of equality and social justice, in cooperation with the Department of Studies and Planning, the Sustainable Development Unit, the Human Rights Department, and the Women\u2019s Affairs Unit at the University Presidency.
\nThe symposium aimed to shed light on women\u2019s rights amid contemporary social and cultural changes, examine the challenges they face, promote a culture of equality and equal opportunities, and highlight the role of academic institutions in raising public awareness of and protecting women\u2019s rights.
\nThe symposium addressed several themes related to women\u2019s human, social, and legal rights, emphasizing the importance of women\u2019s empowerment and enhancing their participation in various aspects of life. These efforts contribute to building a society founded on fairness and mutual respect, while underscoring the need for coordinated institutional efforts to achieve comprehensive development.
\nThe symposium\u2019s objectives align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
