{"id":40803,"date":"2026-09-10T07:57:52","date_gmt":"2026-09-10T07:57:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uomosul.edu.iq\/en\/remotesensingcenter\/?p=40803"},"modified":"2026-09-10T07:57:52","modified_gmt":"2026-09-10T07:57:52","slug":"remote-sensing-center-participates-in-a-masters-thesis-defense-at-the-university-of-mosul","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uomosul.edu.iq\/en\/remotesensingcenter\/2026\/09\/10\/remote-sensing-center-participates-in-a-masters-thesis-defense-at-the-university-of-mosul\/","title":{"rendered":"Remote Sensing Center Participates in a Master\u2019s Thesis Defense at the University of Mosul"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><\/h3>\n<p>In alignment with <strong>Sustainable Development Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), Sustainable Development Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and Sustainable Development Goal 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions)<\/strong>, <strong>Prof. Dr. Fawzia Mahmoud Ramou<\/strong>, a faculty member at the Remote Sensing Center, participated as a member of the <strong>Master\u2019s thesis defense committee<\/strong> at the College of Computer Science and Mathematics, Department of Computer Science, University of Mosul.<\/p>\n<p>The thesis defense was held on <strong>Monday, September 7, 2026<\/strong>, for the thesis entitled <strong>\u201cDesign of a Computer Vision System for Monitoring Human Behavior at the University of Mosul,\u201d<\/strong> submitted by <strong>Fatima Abd Jasim<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The thesis focused on designing a <strong>computer vision system for monitoring and analyzing human behavior in the university environment<\/strong>, with particular emphasis on the <strong>automated detection of violent behavior from video footage<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The study employed <strong>artificial intelligence and computer vision techniques<\/strong>, utilizing the <strong>YOLOv8 model<\/strong> for person and violence-region detection, the <strong>Farneback Dense Optical Flow algorithm<\/strong> for motion analysis, and the <strong>Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (Bi-LSTM) model<\/strong> for analyzing the temporal information of motion.
