{"id":40806,"date":"2026-09-13T10:08:12","date_gmt":"2026-09-13T10:08:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uomosul.edu.iq\/en\/remotesensingcenter\/?p=40806"},"modified":"2026-09-13T10:08:12","modified_gmt":"2026-09-13T10:08:12","slug":"remote-sensing-center-participates-in-a-masters-thesis-defense-at-the-university-of-mosul-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uomosul.edu.iq\/en\/remotesensingcenter\/2026\/09\/13\/remote-sensing-center-participates-in-a-masters-thesis-defense-at-the-university-of-mosul-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Remote Sensing Center Participates in a Master\u2019s Thesis Defense at the University of Mosul"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><\/h2>\n<p>The <strong>Remote Sensing Center<\/strong>, represented by <strong>Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Fawzi Omar<\/strong>, Head of the Department of Natural Resources and Engineering Sciences at the Center, participated as <strong>Chair of the Master\u2019s Thesis Defense Committee<\/strong> at the Department of Geography, College of Education for Humanities, University of Mosul.<\/p>\n<p>The thesis defense was held on <strong>Thursday, September 10, 2026<\/strong>, for the thesis entitled <strong>\u201cThe Role of Artificial Intelligence in Estimating the Level of Water Pollution in Urban Areas: Mosul City as a Case Study,\u201d<\/strong> submitted by <strong>Asmaa Rifai Mohammed Taher Ismail<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The thesis aimed to investigate the capability of <strong>Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques<\/strong> in assessing water pollution levels and their relationship with urban areas, and to utilize this capability to support environmental and planning decisions related to water quality in Mosul City.<\/p>\n<p>The study employed Artificial Intelligence models, including <strong>Random Forest (RF)<\/strong> and <strong>Support Vector Machine (SVM)<\/strong>, to predict pollution levels and associated risks. The study achieved highly accurate predictive results for the <strong>Tigris and Al-Khosr Rivers<\/strong>, in addition to an applied assessment of urban areas within the city.<\/p>\n<p>The study contributes to the achievement of <strong>Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being)<\/strong>, <strong>Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation)<\/strong>, and <strong>Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Remote Sensing Center, represented by Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Fawzi Omar, Head of the Department of Natural Resources and Engineering Sciences at the Center, participated as Chair of the Master\u2019s Thesis Defense Committee at the Department of Geography, College of Education for Humanities, University of Mosul.
