Master’s thesis in the Human Rights Law Department on the application of the principle of discrimination to autonomous weapons,,,<\/div>\n
On Tuesday, February 25, 2025, the Human Rights Law Department at the College of Law at the University of Mosul discussed a master’s thesis on the application of the principle of discrimination to autonomous weapons, part of which was attended by a number of members of the college council and its instructors.<\/div>\n
The thesis submitted by the student Ihsan Abdul-Jabbar Khader in the Human Rights Law Department dealt with the definition and concept of autonomous weapons, with reference to the questions arising from the use of these weapons in international or non-international armed conflicts and the extent of their ability to comply with the principles and rules of international humanitarian law in general and the principle of discrimination in particular.<\/div>\n
The thesis aims to show that autonomous weapons are a means of modern combat that do not require human intervention, and that establishing a unified concept for these weapons is one of the topics that are not agreed upon.<\/div>\n
