Kamel Abdul-Hussein Al-Baldawi was born in Balad District in 1945, becoming one of the most prominent figures in the field of law and academic education in Iraq. He shouldered the mission of knowledge and reform, devoting his life to building solid educational institutions until his martyrdom in 2006 under tragic circumstances that left a deep wound in the hearts of all who knew him.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

From the University of Baghdad to the founding of the College of Law in Mosul,<\/div>\n
Al-Baldawi earned a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the College of Law at the University of Baghdad and then continued his academic career, earning a Master’s degree from the same university. His contributions were not limited to academic achievement alone; he also became one of the early founders of the College of Law at the University of Mosul, playing a pivotal role in laying the foundations of this educational edifice, both academically and administratively.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Continuous contributions in teaching and administration.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Al-Baldawi emerged as a distinguished professor, supervising dozens of undergraduate and graduate research projects and contributing to the development of competent legal cadres who later carried the torch of justice. In addition to his teaching role, he held several administrative positions, the last of which was Assistant Dean of the College. He worked to develop curricula and modernize work mechanisms, strengthening the College’s position as a leading academic authority.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Between Threats and a Traitor’s Martyrdom<\/div>\n
Al-Baldawi’s career was not without risks. Amid the deteriorating security conditions in Iraq at the time, he was subjected to repeated threats of physical liquidation due to his patriotic stances and influential academic role. However, he remained steadfast in his position, refusing to abandon his educational mission. On a fateful day in 2006, after leaving the College of Law at the end of the official working day, criminal gangs attacked him and shot him, resulting in his martyrdom, concluding a career full of giving.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

An unforgettable legacy…<\/div>\n
Despite his tragic passing, Al-Baldawi’s legacy lives on in the College of Law at the University of Mosul, which, thanks to his efforts, has become a beacon of learning, graduating generations of judges, lawyers, and academics. His life is remembered today as an example of dedication to academic work and sacrifice for the sake of building solid national institutions, even under the shadow of danger.
