It explored the adequacy of the rules of international law and the Rome Statute in confronting severe environmental damage, while reviewing international efforts to recognize ecocide as an independent international crime, and demonstrating the need to develop the rules of international liability and expand the scope of criminal protection for the environment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span class=\"\">The study aimed to clarify the concept of ecocide and its legal nature, analyze the legal basis for international liability arising therefrom, assess the adequacy of the rules of international law and the Rome Statute in protecting the environment, as well as review international efforts to recognize it as an independent international crime, and outline mechanisms for activating international liability and enhancing criminal protection for the environment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span class=\"\">The discussion committee consisted of:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span class=\"\">Assistant Professor Dr. Iyad Younis Mohammed \u2013 Chair.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span class=\"\">Assistant Professor Dr. Suhad Abduljammal Abdulkarim \u2013 Member.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span class=\"\">Lecturer Dr. Saba Mohammed Musa \u2013 Member.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span class=\"\">Professor Dr. Ahmed Tariq Yassin \u2013 Member and Supervisor.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span class=\"\">This discussion comes within the framework of the College of Law at the University of Mosul&#8217;s interest in contemporary legal research addressing emerging international and environmental issues, thereby contributing to enriching legal studies and enhancing environmental protection within the framework of international law.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Thursday, July 30, 2026, the College of Law at the University of Mosul discussed the Master&#8217;s thesis entitled\u00a0&#8220;International Liability Arising from Ecocide \u2013 An Analytical Study&#8221;, submitted by the student Noor Mohammed Yunus Khidhr, under the supervision of Professor Dr. Ahmed Tariq Yassin.
