The College of Law at the University of Mosul discussed, on\u00a0<\/span>Wednesday, September 9, 2026<\/span><\/strong>, the master’s thesis titled\u00a0<\/span>“Social Customs and Traditions and Their Impact on Human Rights Related to Community Peace”<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0, presented by the student\u00a0<\/span>Mohammed Azhar Owaid<\/span><\/strong>, under the supervision of\u00a0<\/span>Professor Dr. Khalaf Ramadan Mohammed<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The study addressed the impact of social customs and traditions on the enjoyment of human rights and its reflection on community peace, by examining the concept of social customs and traditions, the position of the heavenly religions toward them, and the concept of community peace and the factors influencing it, as well as clarifying the impact of certain social practices on civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights.<\/span><\/p>\n

The study also addressed a number of prevalent social practices, including\u00a0<\/span>tribal revenge (vendetta)<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0,\u00a0<\/span>deprivation of women from inheritance<\/span><\/strong>,\u00a0<\/span>class and sectarian stratification<\/span><\/strong>,\u00a0<\/span>forced marriage and tribal “Nahwa” (Hiyar)<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0,\u00a0<\/span>deprivation of women from work and education<\/span><\/strong>,\u00a0<\/span>wage discrimination<\/span><\/strong>,\u00a0<\/span>deprivation of children from education<\/span><\/strong>, and\u00a0<\/span>tribal “Jalwa” (forced relocation) and social stigmatization<\/span><\/strong>, while explaining the extent of their contradiction with the provisions of the Iraqi Constitution, applicable legislation, and international conventions related to human rights.<\/span><\/p>\n

The study concluded that the continuation of social customs and traditions that violate the law and the principles of human rights leads to the violation of a number of fundamental rights, the undermining of the values of justice and equality, and the weakening of social cohesion, which is reflected negatively on community peace and hinders the achievement of sustainable development. It emphasized the importance of complementarity between legislation, the activation of the rule of law, the dissemination of community awareness, and the promotion of a culture of human rights, thereby contributing to consolidating a society based on respect for human dignity, the rule of law, and peaceful coexistence.<\/span><\/p>\n
