{"id":49638,"date":"2026-09-12T10:42:06","date_gmt":"2026-09-12T10:42:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uomosul.edu.iq\/en\/rights\/?p=49638"},"modified":"2026-09-12T10:42:06","modified_gmt":"2026-09-12T10:42:06","slug":"college-of-law-at-the-university-of-mosul-discusses-masters-thesis-on-the-impact-of-social-customs-and-traditions-on-human-rights-and-community-peace","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uomosul.edu.iq\/en\/rights\/2026\/09\/12\/college-of-law-at-the-university-of-mosul-discusses-masters-thesis-on-the-impact-of-social-customs-and-traditions-on-human-rights-and-community-peace\/","title":{"rendered":"College of Law at the University of Mosul Discusses Master&#8217;s Thesis on the Impact of Social Customs and Traditions on Human Rights and Community Peace"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"ds-virtual-list-items _6f2c522\">\n<div class=\"ds-virtual-list-visible-items\">\n<div class=\"_4f9bf79 d7dc56a8 _43c05b5\" data-virtual-list-item-key=\"80\">\n<div class=\"ds-message _63c77b1\">\n<div class=\"ds-markdown ds-assistant-message-main-content\">\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span class=\"\">The College of Law at the University of Mosul discussed, on\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"\">Wednesday, September 9, 2026<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"\">, the master&#8217;s thesis titled\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"\">&#8220;Social Customs and Traditions and Their Impact on Human Rights Related to Community Peace&#8221;<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"\">\u00a0, presented by the student\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"\">Mohammed Azhar Owaid<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"\">, under the supervision of\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"\">Professor Dr. Khalaf Ramadan Mohammed<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span class=\"\">The study addressed the impact of social customs and traditions on the enjoyment of human rights and its reflection on community peace, by examining the concept of social customs and traditions, the position of the heavenly religions toward them, and the concept of community peace and the factors influencing it, as well as clarifying the impact of certain social practices on civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span class=\"\">The study also addressed a number of prevalent social practices, including\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"\">tribal revenge (vendetta)<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"\">\u00a0,\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"\">deprivation of women from inheritance<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"\">,\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"\">class and sectarian stratification<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"\">,\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"\">forced marriage and tribal &#8220;Nahwa&#8221; (Hiyar)<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"\">\u00a0,\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"\">deprivation of women from work and education<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"\">,\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"\">wage discrimination<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"\">,\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"\">deprivation of children from education<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"\">, and\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"\">tribal &#8220;Jalwa&#8221; (forced relocation) and social stigmatization<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"\">, while explaining the extent of their contradiction with the provisions of the Iraqi Constitution, applicable legislation, and international conventions related to human rights.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span class=\"\">The study concluded that the continuation of social customs and traditions that violate the law and the principles of human rights leads to the violation of a number of fundamental rights, the undermining of the values of justice and equality, and the weakening of social cohesion, which is reflected negatively on community peace and hinders the achievement of sustainable development.
