Prof. Dr. Rana Tariq Yahya<\/strong> from the Department of Medical Physics, in collaboration with <strong data-start=\"475\" data-end=\"520\">Master\u2019s student Jumana Abduljabbar Ahmed<\/strong> from the Department of Biological Sciences, has successfully registered <strong data-start=\"593\" data-end=\"658\">four new varieties of the thyme plant (<em data-start=\"634\" data-end=\"655\">Thymus caespititius<\/em>)<\/strong> in the <strong data-start=\"666\" data-end=\"722\">National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI)<\/strong>, part of the global gene bank network.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"763\" data-end=\"950\">These newly identified varieties have been officially listed in the international database under the following accession numbers:<br data-start=\"892\" data-end=\"895\" \/>\ud83d\udd39 PV454434<br data-start=\"906\" data-end=\"909\" \/>\ud83d\udd39 PV454435<br data-start=\"920\" data-end=\"923\" \/>\ud83d\udd39 PV454436<br data-start=\"934\" data-end=\"937\" \/>\ud83d\udd39 PV454437<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"952\" data-end=\"1254\">This milestone is the result of meticulous experiments conducted on tissue cultures of the thyme plant, which were exposed to a magnetic field in order to induce molecular changes in the gene responsible for producing <strong data-start=\"1170\" data-end=\"1180\">thymol<\/strong>\u2014a key bioactive compound known for its medicinal and aromatic properties.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1256\" data-end=\"1529\">This scientific advancement marks a qualitative step toward developing plant varieties with enhanced traits, greater productivity, and improved therapeutic potential. It also opens new horizons in <strong data-start=\"1453\" data-end=\"1476\">genetic engineering<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1481\" data-end=\"1507\">modern biotechnologies<\/strong> for medicinal plants.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1531\" data-end=\"1832\">The College of Science proudly celebrates this outstanding success, commending the exceptional research efforts of its faculty and students.
